At an altitude of 2,411 metres, Mount Manengouba is an ancient volcano surrounded by tropical forest. The Peul people who live there are grouped into several small villages. Virtually cut off from the rest of the world, they live by farming and rearing horses, goats and zebus. The mountain is famous for its twin lakes: the male lake and the female lake. The two are separated by a thin ridge. On one side is the female lake, the larger of the two, blue in colour and easy to access with steps leading down to a small beach. On the other side is the male lake, which is green and more difficult to access.
Considered to be the most beautiful waterfalls in Cameroon, the Ekom Falls are located in the Moungo department, near Melong, on the River Nkam. They are 80 metres high. The film Greystoke, the Legend of Tarzan was shot there in 1984. Ekom Falls are located in the village of Ekom-Nkam, home to the Baréko people.
