The Western Region of Cameroon is famous for its green hills, vibrant traditions, and bustling markets. Yet, hidden within these landscapes lies a site unlike any other: the Bangou Slavery Memorial Garden, inaugurated in 2022.

More than that, it is not just a tourist stop. Rather, it stands as a place of memory and resilience, built to honor the lives of those who endured slavery.

In fact, the garden occupies the very ground where two slave markets once operated. What makes it especially unique is this: it was reserved for the sale of nobles, princes, and princesses of Bangou. Because of their status, these individuals were considered too valuable to be sold in public squares.

Today, the memorial sheds light on this hidden past. As a result, visitors have the chance to confront history, honor ancestors, and reflect on resilience.
