In fact, the garden occupies the very ground where two slave markets once operated. What makes it especially unique is this: it was reserved for the sale of nobles, princes, and princesses of Bangou. Because of their status, these individuals were considered too valuable to be sold in public squares.
Today, the memorial sheds light on this hidden past. As a result, visitors have the chance to confront history, honor ancestors, and reflect on resilience.

The memorial lies in Bangou, West Region of Cameroon. It is only 200 meters from the Bangou chiefdom and about 2 km from the municipal market.
If you are staying in Bana, the site is just 35 minutes away by road.
How to Get There

By car: From Douala, take the N5 highway through the Moungo region, home to the famous Ekom Nkam Waterfalls. Continue past Bafang, where you can also stop to visit the Mouankeu Waterfall. From there, drive toward the Bangou municipal market, take the first left, continue 2 km, then turn left again. Road signs will guide you. Private or rental cars are the most comfortable option.

By bus or shared taxi: Public transport runs between Bafoussam and Bafang. From Bafang, you can hire an urban transport vehicle and give your destination—the Bangou Slavery Memorial Garden.

By bike: Possible from nearby villages such as Bana, Batcha, or Batchingou. For longer distances, a vehicle is recommended for comfort and safety.
Opening Hours and Best Time to Visit
The Bangou Slavery Memorial Garden is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
